Education System

There are currently over 32,000 international students studying in Romania. Students from all over the world choose Romania as their study destination not only for its stunning countryside and unique culture but for its affordable living costs and globally recognised qualifications.

Romania has prestigious and highly ranked universities throughout the country and these institutions offer academic and professional training, preparing students for future employment. With an established higher education system that follows the Bologna system which is certified throughout Europe, this means that courses are available at all study levels. A Bachelor’s degree of 3 years, a Master’s degree of 2 years and a Doctorate degree of 3 years.

Additionally, the various qualifications of the higher education system in Romania include diplomas, certificates, degrees, and other official documents confirming the higher education program, and graduate professional qualifications.

These institutions offer a wide range of degree programs with over a hundred public and private accredited institutions. The fields of study are multiple. Students can choose to either study art, science, medicine, engineering or business and Romanian courses in engineering, medicine and science are at par with those taught at Western universities. Moreover, four of Romania’s universities are included in QS’s list of The World’s Top University Rankings.

Romanian higher education institutions are free to set their own curriculum. However, most courses begin in the first week of October and last 14 weeks per semester with exams being held at the end of each semester. Romania participates in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), making it easy to transfer credits between Romanian universities and other foreign institutions.

Fee range in local currency

Tuition fees for an International student in Romania depends on the course of study as well as nationality of the student. For students from Romania, the EU/ EEA countries and Switzerland, the amount will be lesser than for those who are from other countries. But with that being said, there is not much of a difference.

The average estimated amount for most programs ranges from 10,000 RON (approximately 1,79804 INR) and 24,000 RON (approximately 4,31,491 INR), although programs like medicine and engineering generally come in at the higher end of this range.

Depending on the institution, international students who require a visa will have to pay a deposit amount of at least one semester’s worth before arriving in Romania.
