Accommodation

Romania has a wide range of student accommodations, including on-campus student accommodation, self-catering student accommodation, private student houses and student residences, shared and private apartments and homestays. Each of these accommodations have their own facilities and perks and therefore their prices differ.

Among the various types of student accommodations in Romania, student dormitories are considered the most affordable option for international students. Shared private apartments are also a good option for students who want to save up some money and in these apartments, students have their own room but have a common bathroom and kitchen.

For renting a student dormitory in Romania, a student has to register and obtain a letter of admission from the university that the student is enrolled to and to do this, students have to apply through the university administration. However, if a student wishes to rent a private student apartment, room or studio, they will have to submit an application to the appropriate private dormitory.

For other private apartments outside the campus, students will have to contact a real estate agency and these agencies will provide useful information about housing and rental offers in the market which will help students rent an apartment within a week, taking into account the condition of each student.

The cost of student dormitories varies from university to university. The reason lies on the amenities that each residence offers. Typically, the rent for a one-bedroom apartment starts from 200 EUR per month (approximately 18,000 INR) while a two-bedroom apartment costs about 450 EUR (40,000 INR).

Although renting an apartment in Romania is not expensive, international students can use the following options to reduce their rental expenses:

• Shared apartments: this is the best way to cut down the housing expense and avoid staying alone in a foreign country.

• Advance payment for accommodation: students that pay an advance rent of 3-6 months or even longer can negotiate and get a drastic reduction on their monthly rent.

• Buying an apartment: Some parents prefer to buy apartments for their children instead of paying monthly rent. This is common for parents of medical students who have come for a course of at least 6 years.
