About

Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is a world-class educational and research institute located in Manchester, England. It was primarily set up as the Manchester Mechanics Institute and the Manchester School of Design. These two institutes then consolidated to form the Manchester Polytechnic in 1970. Later in 1992, the government's Further Education Act awarded the Manchester Polytechnic the status of a university, and ever since it has been known as the Manchester Metropolitan University.

MMU is made up of three campuses: All Saints, Birley, and Cheshire. World-class structures and facilities abound on university campuses, enhancing students' learning environments. Academic buildings, administrative offices, recreational centres, sports centres, libraries, community centres as well as student housing are located on each campus.

The University is also a member of the University Alliance, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the North West Universities Association, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and the European University Association, and is accredited by the Association of MBAs.

Student Service:

Every faculty at MMU has a student support officer to provide advice and guidance on every aspect of university life, including navigating campus and Manchester, presentation skills, test tips, and stress management. The Student Hub can also assist with a wide variety of non-academic issues via open frontline facilities.

The University also offers its students temporary job opportunities throughout the university via the Jobs4Students portal. Students can find a wide range of temporary job roles throughout the university such as event ambassadors, student ambassadors, peer mentors, to name a few. The online volunteering hub run by the Students' Union, provides many volunteer opportunities to acquire valuable experience and skills that will improve CVs and assist students in impressing employers and launching their chosen career. 

Accommodation:

The University offers a diverse selection of housing options for all its students on both campuses. Ranging from shared flats to en-suite suites, students can choose from a wide variety of on-campus residential halls including Birley, Briarfield, Cambridge, Cavendish Place, Daisy Bank, Needham Court, New Medlock House and Rosamond House. Students may also choose from a variety of off-campus options in and around the area.

Medical Services:

To access a range of services such as medical advice, tests, sexual health screenings, vaccines, and prescriptions, students must first register with a doctor. Students are also provided with many excellent programmes and resources to assist them in maintaining their mental health and well-being. Also, the Counselling Mental Health and Wellbeing team provides one-on-one counselling, referrals, and other services.

Sports Facilities:

MMU has several outstanding recreational facilities where students and employees can participate in a variety of fitness and wellness activities. The Platt Lane Sports Complex, which celebrates the site's football past, offers several top-notch pitches, a professionally equipped gym, a variety of fitness classes, and a variety of coaching sessions for people of all ages. Sugden Sports Centre offers a gym, exercise classes, a sports hall, pitches, and a full schedule of events. Manchester Aquatics, on the other hand, has a gym, a swimming pool, a health club, and fitness classes.

Library Facilities:

Books, special collections and a variety of electronic resources, including downloadable books and eJournals, can all be found at the Manchester Metropolitan Library. Students can also find exhibits, large and quiet study spaces, collaborative workspaces, as well as a variety of workshops, skill sessions, and expert support.

Social Clubs:

The University has over 150 clubs and committees that participate in a variety of activities geared toward student development. Popular clubs include breakdance society, book club, dodgeball, creative minds, dance and football among many others.
