The Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is a tertiary education provider in New Zealand that was established in 1974. It was originally founded as the Hawke’s Bay Community College which was later changed to Hawke’s Bay Polytechnic in 1987. It was only in 1996 that it adopted its current name. EIT has campuses in Hawke Bay, Auckland, and Gisborne.

The Institute is recognised by both the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and New Zealand’s Ministry of Education (MOE). It offers more than 150 qualifications ranging from diploma and certificate courses to undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. Eastern Institute of Technology is a category one institute that has received remarkable ratings from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) External Evaluation and Review (EER).

It has two faculties:

  1. The Faculty of Education, Humanities and Health Sciences
  2. The Faculty of Commerce and Technology

The Institute is a popular choice for students with over 10,000 students enrolled in 2020. Presently there are over 400 international students coming from over 40 countries around the world. EIT has various support services designed for international students as well as a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Students will be taught by lecturers who have experienced industry professionals and they can also gain useful experience using the state-of-the-art technology and facilities offered by the Institute.

The Eastern Institute of Technology is very inclusive and diverse and provides an excellent learning environment for students. Student’s Association

“Younited” is the student association of EIT that acts as the voice of the entire student body. It advocates student issues and promotes the social, cultural, recreational, and educational interests of all students on campus and online. Younited organizes a number of events throughout the year for the different cultures, age groups, and interests in the student body.
