About

Cardiff Metropolitan University is a public university in the city of Cardiff, United Kingdom. It was established in 1865 as the Cardiff School of Arts. This institute combined with four other schools, including Cardiff College of Food Technology and Commerce, Cardiff Teacher Training College, and Llandaff Technical College, to form the South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education, which was later renamed as the Cardiff Institute of Higher Education. The Institute became an independent body of the University of Wales in 1992, and the Privy Council granted it Degree Awarding Powers in 1993. The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) was granted university college status within the University of Wales in 1996. In November 2011, the association of the University of Wales Institute with the University of Wales came to an end, and it was renamed Cardiff Metropolitan University.
