WHAT IS AN UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE
An undergraduate course is pursued by a student after completing (10+2) education. This is the first degree students are awarded in their career, making it all the more crucial to select the right course as it will play an important role in their future career. It is essential to score well for this degree as it paves the way for students to enroll in further postgraduate studies.
There is one primary undergraduate degree called a Bachelor’s Degree. It offers a vast range of subjects to choose from based on the stream you desire to study. A student has the freedom to choose which line of study he/she desires to pursue. A few of the courses available include:
The basic Bachelor’s courses like Arts, Commerce and Science will take you three years to complete, in India, while the other vocational courses can take you up to four or five years. The evaluation process of this study will include assessment through essays, dissertations, assignments and exams, based upon the course that a student chooses. Now that you are familiar with this degree and the courses available, we can help you make the right choice in selecting the correct course best suited for you. Allow us to make a few suggestions which you should keep in mind before selecting a course:
Choosing the right subject:
It is very important that a student picks a subject which he or she is extremely passionate about. This ensures that the student will make an effort to learn more about it Secondly, opt for a subject which has more job opportunities. Thirdly, explore the different career options you can have from studying a particular subject. If you are one of the many who have more than one subject or course in mind, then it is advisable for you to apply for more than one to increase your chances. You need to keep in mind though that there might be few restrictions in some cases.
Type of Undergraduate course:
As mentioned earlier, there is one primary Bachelor’s degree, which is a full-time study ranging from three to five years. You can opt for Honours subjects as well where you can specialise in a particular subject during your study. Apart from this, we also have an Undergraduate diploma course. As the name suggests, it is a program for students who have qualified in (10+2) education and are looking at studying further but wish to take up a short-term course, rather than a full-time one. This gives students a chance at enhancing their knowledge in a certain subject taking up short term specialisation courses in certain subjects that they have an interest in. This course takes a year or two to complete, based on the choice of subject.
Choosing your mode of study:
You have chosen a subject of interest but would like to know if you could do a distance course. Yes you can. You have the option of studying at your own pace and time, through online classes, course material available online or learning material that can be sent to you via post once you have applied for the course. This gives the student the opportunity to both work and study as well as save time from travelling to the institute if you reside far from the place of study.
Choosing the place of study:
Last but not the least, you now need to select an institute or university you wish you apply to. We advise you to research on which Universities you have in mind, making sure they have the subject or course you aspire to pursue and keep track of the admission deadlines. Keep in mind your entry requirements, which will make you eligible for the given course you choose to apply for.
We have covered the aspects of choosing a subject or course and the institute or university you desire to apply to, but you also need to know what are the eligibility criteria and requirements a student needs for a Bachelor’s degree. Let us examine:
